Some Types of Persecution

Political persecution

Political persecution is the persecution of an individual because of their political beliefs, activities, or associations. This can include persecution by the state or by non-state actors, and can take many forms, such as imprisonment, torture, violence, and assassination. Political persecution can also include discrimination and other human rights violations, such as the denial of the right to work, the right to education, and the right to freedom of expression and association.

Religious persecution

Religious persecution is the persecution of an individual because of their religion, including their beliefs, practices, and/or affiliations. This can include persecution by the state or by non-state actors, and can take many forms, such as imprisonment, torture, violence, and assassination. Religious persecution can also include discrimination and other human rights violations, such as the denial of the right to work, the right to education, and the right to freedom of religion.

Social persecution

Social persecution is the persecution of an individual because of their membership in a particular social group. This can include persecution by the state or by non-state actors, and can take many forms, such as violence, discrimination, and other human rights violations. Social groups can be defined by a variety of characteristics, such as race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, and more.

Domestic violence as persecution

Domestic violence can be a violation of an individual’s human rights and may give rise to a claim for asylum or protection under international human rights law. Domestic violence can also be considered a form of persecution in the context of a refugee claim when it is carried out on grounds related to the victim’s race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion.

Persecution can give rise to refugee claim. If you are seeking asylum or protection because of persecution, it is important to seek legal advice and assistance from immigration consultant as soon as possible. It will be necessary to provide evidence of the persecution you have faced, including any documentation or other information that can support your claim. It may also be helpful to have witness statements from individuals who can testify to the persecution you have experienced.
